2016 Scholarship for Professional Achievement

The Keith and Keely Mann Scholarship for Professional Achievement is a designed scholarship for the next generation of innovative business leaders. The Manns have partnered with Uncommon Schools of New York to provide this scholarship for the schools’ students aiming at a four-year college degree.

To apply, the candidates need to write a 1,000-word essay describing how earning a university degree will help them in professional success. The scholarship consists of $5,000 that can be applied to college tuition.

Uncommon Schools is a nonprofit network of schools in Boston, New York City, Newark, Rochester, and Troy. The schools focus on literacy and math, while having their own schedules. The aim is to prepare low-income students for academic success.

As these chartered schools claim, “By 6th grade, 75% of our regions outperform the state in reading, and continue to outperform the state in 7th and 8th grade.” The schools started their operations back in 2005.
