Dr. Jorge Moll is a neuroscientist, businessman, researcher and the Chief Executive Officer of Institute for Research and Education. It’s the most well-known hospital group (of 25 hospitals) in Brazil. Dr. Moll received his MD in Neuroscience from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he also completed his residency. He earned his PhD. in Experimental Pathophysiology from Sao Paulo University.
He states, “…ideas are plentiful.” and “The hardest part is choosing the best one and dropping the others.” He adds, “I tend to choose the one that can be converted into a plan of action and allow for collaboration.” His idea for D’Or Institute of Research and Education is a partial fulfillment of his “dream and passion to cultivate world-class research, education, and healthcare in my own country.” He’s currently President and CEO of the company he founded. Dr. Moll also serves as the Director of the Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience Unit, and the Neuroinformatics Workgroup, a premier diagnostics and imaging lab.
Jorge is curious and has many interests including artificial intelligence, cognitive systems, and how machines and the human brain can work together. He likes the idea of starting a company “that meets the needs of people and makes entering a hospital, simple, enjoyable and memorable.” Since that’s not the way most providers or patients view a stay in the hospital, this is a radical idea. But this is consistent with Jorge Moll’s drive to unlock medical mysteries that can improve their quality of life.
Dr. Moll is a proponent of collaborations that enable the free exchange of ideas. His days are generally filled with meetings and interactions with scientists, researchers, students, and entrepreneurs. He uses the Trello and Evernote applications to help him stay organized and productive.
His favorite quote is by DaVinci and it says, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Dr. Moll is passionate about patient treatments and his family. He remembers buying, “movies, legos, figurines…” for his children since they enjoy them. One of the keys to a fulfilling life is remembering what’s important and keeping your priorities in order like Jorge Moll.
