The GJP network has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the recent growth of the Brazilian tourism industry.
The network is owned by Guilherme Paulus, who is also the founder of CVC Brasil Operadora e Agencia de Viagens S.A. The group of hotels owns a number of facilities spanning the entire country, and as of last year, they owned a total of 19 hotels, which were split as follows seven of them are located in the South Region, five in the Southeast Region and another seven in the Northeast Region. This has been boosted in part by the sports events hosted by Brazil since 2014.
When it was announced that Brazil would be hosting the world cup in 2014, GJP moved fast to get approvals to develop hotels near the country’s major airports. This was driven by the belief that there would be a number of guests who would prefer locations close to airports as it would ease their commutes to and from the different sports arenas. The businessman was able to get the necessary approvals, and the developments began immediately. His company was able to undertake all these projects give he had just sold quite a large stake of CVC Brasil Operadora e Agencia de Viagens S.A. to a private equity group for approximately 420 million dollars. This deal had opened up his cash, and he was at that time able to take on a number of projects at once. Guilherme Paulus believes in value of investing something that has made him such a successful entrepreneur. His work at GJP has been paying off as he was recently recognized as one of the richest individuals in Brazil and got listed on the Forbes list of billionaires. The GJP network has significantly boosted his net worth even after selling the said stake at CVC.
Guilherme Paulus continues to be a leading voice within the Brazilian tourism industry, and the president recently appointed him to the tourism board. This position will enable the government to tap into his experience as well as his expertise to help move the industry forward. Given what is at stake for him, he promises to deliver as best as he can.
